LFC and Husqvarna win Sport Positive Best Purpose-led Partnership award

Liverpool FC and the club’s official groundskeeping partner, Husqvarna, have been recognised for their work together to drive environmental progress, winning the Best Purpose-led Partnership award at the 2026 Sport Positive Awards.

The partnership was recognised for combining innovative groundskeeping technology with the club’s sustainability strategy, The Red Way, to support more sustainable operations and enhance biodiversity across club sites.

The relationship between the two organisations began in 2021, when LFC first introduced Husqvarna robotic mowers across its training facilities, before Husqvarna became the club’s first official groundskeeping partner in 2024.

Since then, the partnership has expanded the use of robotic mowing and battery-powered technology across the club’s estate, helping to reduce reliance on conventional groundskeeping practices while allowing the grounds team to dedicate more time to biodiversity enhancement and habitat creation.

During the 2025-26 season, LFC expanded its robotic mower fleet to maintain 100 per cent of non-playing grass surfaces across club sites using Husqvarna technology, which runs on clean and renewable energy. The additional time created for the grounds team has supported work including meadow and habitat creation, planting programmes and ecological restoration.

That work has contributed to more than 10,000 plants being established at the AXA Training Centre and Academy, more than 1,000m² of additional native meadow habitat and a bee population of approximately 240,000 across three hives at the club’s allotment. The club is also monitoring 65 biodiversity species and 47 flora species across its sites.

Rishi Jain, director of impact at LFC, said: “We’re incredibly proud to see our partnership with Husqvarna recognised with this award.

“Our partners have an important role to play in helping us deliver against the ambitions of The Red Way, and this collaboration is a great example of what we can achieve when we work together with a shared purpose.

“By combining Husqvarna’s technology and expertise with the work of our multi-award-winning grounds team, we’ve been able to make meaningful changes to the way we manage our sites while creating more opportunities to enhance biodiversity and support nature.

“It’s been fantastic to see the partnership continue to develop since we first started working together, and we’re looking forward to building on the progress we’ve made.”

Margaretha Finnstedt, director of thought leadership and executive communication at Husqvarna, said: “We are proud to receive this award alongside Liverpool FC. It reflects a shared belief that leadership comes with responsibility.

“Together, we are demonstrating that innovation, sustainability and elite performance can go hand in hand. This recognition shows how technology and expertise in grounds management can contribute to sustainability in meaningful and measurable ways, creating benefits for both sport and nature."

The collaboration also supports the club’s wider ambition to increase the use of cleaner technology across its operations, with Husqvarna working alongside LFC to increase the use of battery-powered equipment.

The partnership forms part of LFC’s ongoing work through The Red Way to minimise its environmental impact and embed sustainability across its operations, with progress tracked and publicly reported through the club’s annual sustainability report.

The Sport Positive Awards celebrate organisations and individuals using sport to drive positive environmental and social change, with the Best Purpose-led Partnership award recognising collaborations that deliver meaningful and measurable impact.

The latest recognition highlights how LFC and Husqvarna are using their partnership to demonstrate that technology, biodiversity and elite sport can work together to support both high-performance grounds management and long-term environmental progress.
