Here, we meet OLSC New York...
Tell us about the OLSC…
OLSC New York was founded in 1995 and is the oldest Official Liverpool FC Supporters’ Club in the United States. The old days involved finding anywhere the games could be shown and venturing from bar to bar. Since 2004, we've been at our home base, the 11th Street Bar in the East Village. As we've grown, we've added partner bars across the New York area. As of this season, we have around 800 members.
How special is it to have the supporters club where you are?
It's incredibly special. We've build a long-lasting community which has given rise to many long-lasting friendships. For 90 minutes a week we get to come together, leave everything that’s happening in the world to the side, and all pull together to cheer on and sing for the club that we so love. Having a long-standing home gives us our own "Anfield West", which we are very proud of.
It must give you a sense of community and connection to Liverpool and the club itself?
We're very fortunate to link New Yorkers to Liverpool and we're very fortunate to serve as a link between the club and supporters. It's important for us to ensure that our supporters understand the history of the club and what makes supporting Liverpool different to supporting other clubs. We do this in a variety of ways: supporting food banks in NYC and Fans Supporting Foodbanks in Liverpool, working with the Liverpool Foundation and bringing former players in to meet supporters.
In the past we've had Jan Molby, Alan Kennedy, Phil Neal, Terry McDermott, Ronnie Whelan, Gary Gillespie, Sami Hyypia, John Barnes, Martin Skrtel, Roy Evans, Steve McMahon and more. These visits allow people to meet some of the players who contributed to the rich history of the club, one that is being carried forward by the current crop of players.
What is so special about supporting Liverpool for your members?
It's a club with a rich and unique history. The style of football is often high energy and demands a high physical effort level. It's attacking and it's gritty. This resonates with New Yorkers. We want to be entertained, and we also want to feel like we are getting tremendous effort levels from the footballers we watch.
Do you hold meet-ups for games, or any special events throughout the year?
We hold meet-ups for every game at the 11th Street Bar. We also hold other events, such as a yearly trip to go see FC Gotham, a local NWSL team and when we can, host some special visitors.
Has the OLSC ever visited Anfield?
We have people head over quite regularly. For some people it's an annual trip, for others it's once in a lifetime. The experience is always special because you get to participate in an event in a wholly different way and you get to become part of the force pushing the team forward.
What is your favourite memory together as an OLSC?
For me, personally, it's the Tottenham game at Anfield in April of 2025. We were robbed of having the experience of winning the league together during 2020 because of the pandemic. For a long time, we had toyed around with the idea of holding a celebration to commemorate winning the league, but we never got around to it. The let off when Macca scored is probably my favourite moment I've felt at 11th Street. There was no jeopardy, just joy.
Lastly, if anyone else is interested in joining your OLSC, how would they go about doing so?
You can find us for all matchdays, regardless of kick-off time, at the 11th Street Bar. We also work with affiliated partner bars who show most, if not all, games across the NY Metropolitan Area. If you're in Brooklyn, we highly suggest you go see our friends at OLSC Brooklyn who meet at the Monro in Park Slope, they're a fantastic and energetic group as well.
