Anfield travel update: Walton Breck Road highways improvement scheme

Work has started and will continue until March 2027.

Ahead of Liverpool's first Premier League home fixture of the season this Saturday against Nottingham Forest (12.30pm BST kick-off), fans are advised to plan their travel in advance, arrive earlier and check if their usual route is impacted. It will affect those travelling by car and on foot.

The scheme focuses on the section of Walton Breck Road between Oakfield Road and Sleepers Hill. The work incorporates the widening of pavements, new crossing points and resurfacing of the main carriageway.

Throughout the programme, there will be a single-lane carriageway closure in place on Walton Breck Road. Traffic will only run in one direction from Oakfield Road towards the city centre.

Supporters are advised to plan their travel in advance, arrive earlier and check if their usual route is impacted. It will affect those travelling by car and on foot.

Walton Breck Road will still have the usual matchday closures in place – which will now be two hours before kick-off and one hour after the final whistle.

Post-match, fans in the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand will only be able to exit by turning left onto Anfield Road. There will be no access to Walton Breck Road.

The taxi rank located adjacent to the Paisley Gates will be moved temporarily and relocated to Venmore Street.

Fans travelling to the match by car can avoid any congestion around the stadium by using the matchday buses, which are close to safe and secure parking, making them a great park and ride option.

There are several express services from Liverpool city centre and Bootle that will get you to and from Anfield. More information on the direct routes can be found here.
